About Pioglitazone (Actos)
Actos contains Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione (TZD) insulin sensitiser used for type 2 diabetes mellitus. It improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reduces hepatic glucose output, making it effective as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
Benefits of Pioglitazone (Actos)
- Insulin Sensitisation: Improves cellular response to insulin in muscle and fat tissue.
- HbA1c Reduction: Achieves meaningful glycaemic improvement over time.
- Favourable Lipid Effects: May improve HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
How Pioglitazone Works
Pioglitazone activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) in adipocytes and other insulin-sensitive tissues. This transcription factor activation upregulates insulin-responsive genes, redistributes fat away from visceral stores, and improves insulin signalling throughout the body.
